Bev's Days 'Til Christmas Step-by-Step

I had a few people this week, ask to see Bev's Step-By-Step for putting together one the Kaisercraft OTP "Days 'til Christmas Tree Kit " that we had in the Newsletter last weekend.

I think it is just so cute and we have just re-stocked the Kit again this week, so thought I would pop it on the blog so everyone can see it here.

Thanks so much for putting this together for everyone Bev and I hope you all like it as much as I did!!

Christine M

Kaisercraft 'Days Til Christmas' Tree Step-by-Step Project

with Bev Watt

Materials used were:

- Kaisercraft Days 'til Christmas Tree Kit
- 2 Sheets Christmas Themed Papers (I have used Kaisercraft Patterned Paper Wreath - Deck the Halls Range)
- Kaisercraft Flourish Christmas Swirl
- Kaisercraft Self Adhesive Rhinestones (or similar)
- Number Stamps / Stickers / Rub-ons for Count-down Numbers (Need 0-9 and an extra 1 and 2)
- Dimensional Magic (optional)
- Kindy Glitz (optional)
- Other Christmas-sy Embellishments /or Ribbons etc as desired

I have used two pieces of the main Patterned Paper for the main part of the tree and the left over bits were enough for the base pieces. You will need extra paper for the number tags.

Step 1.

Paint around the raw edge of the tree with a colour to suit your papers, and around the base piece in a colour to suit your base papers.

Step 2.

Trace round the wooden tree piece (excluding the base) onto both of your pieces of patterned paper and trace the base twice onto coordinating paper.

The separate base piece will also need to be traced twice onto your coordinating paper (I just used the reverse side of my main tree as the paper is double sided.) Cut out all the pieces .

Step 3.

Take your wooden tree piece and glue the base pieces on first both front and back. Use your craft knife to do any necessary trimming and sand all the edges until smooth. Glue the main tree pieces both front and back trimming and sanding the edges. Next take the separate base piece and cover both the front and back.

Step 4.

Colour the berries and leaves on the
Kaiser Xmas Swirl and use Kindy Glitz on the swirl. Coat the berries and leaves with dimensional magic and glue it to the tree. Using the illustration in the pack as a guide, screw in the two hooks.

I used star shaped gem stones to embellish the rest of the tree but you could use ribbons, buttons or anything else you have in your stash. I added a bow to the top of the tree but you could use a Kaiser Wooden Star Flourish if you would like.

Slot in the separate base piece to create the tree stand.

Step 5.

Pop out the six tag pieces and sand off the rough edges. Paint the raw edges and cover both sides of the tags with some coordinating paper. Add the numbers one through to six on the front of the tags. Turn them over and on the back of the one put a number nine, back of the two put number eight, back of the three put number seven, back of the four add number two, back of the five add number one, back of the six add a zero.

This will give you all the combinations to count down thirty one days. (Mind you I had to ring Christine to work out which numbers to use and further head scratching to work out what number to put on the back of each tag!!)

Add Rhinestone Gems to the base of the tree to complete the project.

I have made this one as a gift but plan to make another for myself, they are too cute!!

Thanks everyone ... enjoy :-)

Are you up for a challenge?

Time to organize your photos to get ready for the Monthly Challenges for July!!

July 2007 Monthly Challenges:

1. Complete a layout using a photo with no people (or animals!) in it!

2. Complete a Lo with WISH in the title

3. Complete a layout featuring rounded corners

4. Complete a layout with a random chipboard title

5. Complete a layout using some bling

6. Complete a layout using two different patterned papers a chipboard item and some ribbon

7. Complete a layout using something from the What’s New section for June

8. Complete a layout with a list on it (can be a list of personality traits, a list of favourites etc)

9. Complete a layout using blue green black and white

Member's Challenge: From Debbie Y... do a layout using stamping and paints

Here are the rules (so to speak) again for any newbies out there ...

What we do is at the start of the month we give a list of 9 challenges that will incorporate a variety of products, themes, techniques etc. You then check them out and select at least 5 of the 9 challenges that you want to try to do in that month - you can elect to do them all. Then as well as these 5 Layouts you also need to complete a layout using the three AUSSLE packs for that month and also either a Monthly Snapshot page for June or the Member's Challenge too. So you will be doing 9 layouts each month to complete the challenges.

Now there is a little bit of an incentive to complete the challenges for the month - if all challenges you decide to try are completed within the month you will receive a credit of $10 to spend at The Scrap Heap during the next month.

If you are taking part in the monthly challenges for us to keep track of them, you must share them here on Aussielayouts as an attachment (not just a link to the gallery) and you must include in the subject line of the email the words Challenge Layout and the number that you are completing or the words Members Challenge or Monthly Snapshot. Without these trigger words or having the layout attached it may be missed and not counted towards your challenges. There will also be a section started in the Gallery called Monthly Challenges – July where you can upload your layouts for this month if you would like.

So who is up for the Monthly Challenges this month??

Something new

Has anyone checked out The Scrap Heap website lately? If not you might have missed a new addition to the shop menu.

Christine has added a 40% off brand names sale section and it's jam packed with fantastic goodies at super prices.

There are albums, stickers, stamps and embellishments and they are all great brands too. You'll find goodies from Junkitz, K & Co, Karen Foster, Heidi Swapp, Chatterbox, Overton House, and heaps more.

I don't think they'll last long at these prices though, so you might want to get in quick!

Have fun,
Deb.

Easter Weekend Virtual Crop

It's Easter ... most of us have 4 days off and we are all ready to scrap ... what better excuse is there than that to have a Virtual Crop!!

Over the weekend I will be announcing 5 Challenges and when you have done them you can share over at our Yahoogroup Aussielayouts and also upload them into the
Gallery in the appropriate challenge categories that are set up for the VC this weekend.

There is one for each challenge as well as another one for any other Non-Challenge things that you get done over the VC Weekend.

Prizes are up for grabs for the Challenges so keep an eye out for when they are posted !!

Also feel free to chat in the
VC Chat Section of the Forum and also ask any questions that you might have about the VC.

Have fun girls ...

Some Yummy Maya Road Chipboard Arrived Today

Just to let you all know that we unpacked a couple of huge boxes of Maya Road Chipboard bits and pieces this afternoon. I am still working on getting it all on to the site but shouldn't be too much longer.

We have heaps of the Chipboard Shapes, Coaster Sets, and some of the Chipboard Books too ... these are just so cute. Not to mention the funky little Tins that they come packaged in ... they are just asking to be decorated!!

All of these Chipboard Items from Maya Road should appear in the What's New Section of The Scrap Heap soon ... as well a few other bits and pieces that arrived today!!
